The Black Russian Terrier is quite a young breed, that was bred in the post-war period at the Central School of Military Dog Breeding on the basis of Red Star Kennel for use as a military/working dog. The ancestors of black terriers are representatives of many working breeds of dogs. The purpose of creation of the breed was to get a big, brave, strong dog, that adapts well to training; the dog with highly developed guarding instinct; the dog, that is able to carry different types of services, that can easily adapt to different climatic conditions. History doesn’t not know many examples of such successful experiments.
In 1983 the Russian Black Terrier received the breed status, and since 1984 it is recognized by the International Canine Federation (FCI).
The Black Russian Terrier has an exceptional memorable appearance and excellent working skills. This breed is called "Pearl of the Russian dog breeding" and the best representatives of this breed represent our country with dignity at exhibitions around the world.
